Not sure what the difference is between Swedish and deep tissue? Are you holding off making an appointment because you aren’t sure what type would suit your needs best? Well, here is some information to help you choose the perfect massage for you.

A Swedish massage is best used to improve circulation, relax tight muscles, increase range of motion, and encourage the release of toxins from body tissues. The massage therapist will use long, kneading/gliding strokes, varying in speed and pressure. A Swedish massage has little effect on the connective tissues. This is a general relaxation massage.

A deep tissue massage is used to relieve chronic stress and heavy muscle tension. The deeper muscles and connective tissues are the focus of a deep tissue massage. The massage therapist uses slow movements that are designed to target tissues deep within the body. The pace is slower in order to give the strokes time to work on the intended area.

Many women turn to prenatal massage to ease the lower back pain that goes along with pregnancy, however a study conducted by researchers at the University of Miami reveals many benefits in addition to pain relief. The study split the 149 pregnant participants into two groups- members of one group receiving two massages per week from the fifth to the seventh months of their pregnancies and members of the other group receiving no massages. The women in the group receiving massage showed lower stress levels and less back pain. However, they also showed fewer signs of depression and had fewer overall prenatal complications.
The most surprising and potentially beneficial finding was the relationship between massage and the serious complications of low birth weight and premature birth. They group which received massage had a 75% lower rate of premature birth and an 80% lower rate of low birth weight babies.
The Spa on Green Street offers luxurious one hour and 90 minute prenatal massage for women past their first trimester of pregnancy.

Weight training is especially important for those of us who are 30 years of age and older. A bi-weekly bout of weight training can help to reverse the natural decline in your metabolism. It also offers excess energy and strengthens bones, which for older women will lessen your risks of developing osteoporosis. It will also elevate your mood naturally during menopause. That’s not to mention the added endurance and energy, plus the improvements to your balance, coordination, posture and overall strength and confidence.

If would like to begin a weight-training program then brace yourself for a ton of benefits. Don’t shy away because you think you’ll have to spend a huge amount of time exercising. Studies show the body benefits from merely 30 minutes three times a week, so take the time to burn extra calories and find all the benefits of a strong healthy body. We are offering a variety of different personal training programs along with complimentary monthly group “Fitness in the Round” meetings. These are designed to encourage, motivate and excite our guests.Call now to schedule a Complimentary Fitness Consultation so we can get you started with a personalized program design today!

The pike (above) is an exercise that promotes shoulder stabilization and core strength. This is an intermediate move that can be modified for a beginner.

The mountain climber (above) is an intermediate move that requires leg and core strength. This exercise is seen as an intermediate move but can also be modified for beginners to build leg strength. This exercise also promotes pelvic stabilization.

The mermaid (above) allows for lengthening along the torso while challenging the core muscles and increasing torso flexibility. The mermaid is great for those with chronic lower back pain as it allows for a release in the musculature in the lower back and pelvic region.
