Teryl Worster and the staff at The Spa on Green Street are excited to announce our Semi-Private Pilates Reformer class here at The Spa on Green Street. In an effort to create a low cost yet highly effective personal training opportunity, we have created a FUN and INTERACTIVE class designed to give participants an introduction to Pilates, it’s benefits and a GREAT workout.These classes will offer a fusion of old and new philosophies building a solid foundation of posture and movement habits.

In the uncertain world of health care reform, the rising toxicity of our atmosphere and increasing levels of stress, it seems that most concerns are outside of our control.We do however have the ability to control our health and fitness by taking steps to ensure that we can have the most optimal life available to us. It takes committment and personal responsibility to make lifestyle changes but the payoff is a longer life filled with vitality, optimal mobility and ultimately more pleasure. Here are a few tips for maintaining your health and increasing longevity:

1. Weight Resistance Exercise at least 3 days a week. This would include yoga, pilates or any type of functional training.

2. Cardiovascular Exercise at least 4 days a week. This would include power walking, running, swimming or any type of activity that keeps your heart rate up consistantly for 20-30 minutes.

3. Balanced diet of protein with plenty of green leafy vegetables. Drink a minimum of 8 glasses of water a day. Eat plenty of color!

4. Regular massage on a monthly basis. Massage is critical for the effective growth of new muscle and in healing injured or strained tissue. It is also helpful in removing toxins from the body, this keeps the body youthful and reduces stress.

5. Regular facials every 6 weeks. We can’t forget the importance of skin health as we age. Getting regular facials allows the body to regenerate new collagen and generates growth of new healthier cells through exfoliation and hydration.

Teryl Worster, Kristen Boye and Ricardo Boye hosted a very succesful healthy shopping tour through a local Kroger. We were so excited to be able to offer such helpful information in such a fun and tasty way, thanks to Sherrie Walker of the Kroger organics department. We are looking forward to our next meeting at our local Chili’s and hope to see you there. Our goal is to continue to create ongoing education and practical support for our community. This is a busy time of year for most individuals, especially families. Rhythms are beginning to change, school is almost over, graduations, vacations and the ever present thought…”Oh my,do I really have to wear a bathing suit in public?” The onset of warm weather causes us to pause and take a longer look in the mirror as we begin to shed our layers of clothing.
