If we are to look at our goal of losing weight, let’s define this as optimizing our body composition – for the body is made up of different types of tissue. When you lose weight, you aren’t really looking to lose bone mass are you? In the same light, you aren’t looking to lose vital organ mass or muscle mass – you are looking to lose body fat. Fat cells have been studied to secrete specific hormones in the bloodstream which carry detailed messages to the brain and other tissues regarding the nutritional status of the body.
Learning how to optimize hormone levels through specific dietary and fitness approaches is the new science behind sustained fat loss and optimal body composition. Knowing how to do this gives anyone the needed advantage over the outdated “eat less and move more” approaches which have not proved to be successful.
If you are serious about sustainable weight-loss consider scheduling a Wellness Program assessment or Complimentary Fitness Consultation, and keep reading the new posts!

Set up the right environment. What’s the right environment for sleep? A bedroom used for just that – sleeping! Televisions, computers or workstations are not conducive to a relaxing environment. Make your bedroom a place where you sleep and spend quality time with your partner – that’s it!Try a calcium supplement before bed. Calcium/magnesium has a naturally calming effect on the body. The Spa on Green Street carries an excellent product called Phyto Cal-Mag Plus which has helped many a person fall asleep and stay asleep while nourishing their bones.
Sleep in a very dark room. For those who have a hard time falling asleep a completely dark room is a must. Even a tiny bit of light can inhibit the production of Melatonin (the sleep hormone) and keep you up.
A first step in resolving sleep issues is to look at your sleep rhythms. It has been noted that before Thomas Edison’s invention of the light bulb, people slept an average of 10 hours per night. The average now is much less, as modern technology has allowed us the benefit of better modifying our environment to suit our needs. Stress, fatigue, indigestion, insomnia – these can all be signs telling you that something is out of balance; they are not the actual problem itself.
We cannot rely on stimulants to give us energy, and medications to put us to sleep – these are artificial and do not work to solve the underlying imbalance. Anybody that has been on this rollercoaster will tell you the same; that it is not the real deal. Looking at key aspects of your body, like your adrenal gland’s relationship to the nervous system, is very helpful in determining the best lifestyle plan for you to regain balance. We can help determine if supplementation could be useful to you, and also observe dietary and exercise habits which can have a great impact on the quality of your sleep. Remember, if there is a symptom, something is causing it and usually you will find the cause well within your reach, something that you can change in your own lifestyle to improve your health. Here’s a key step to better sleep!
